Google-ing this word I have come across different meanings but all heading to one track. The three-letter word was used to refer to any skill or mastery, only this concept changed during the Romantic period when art came to be seen as a special feature faculty of the human mind to be classified with religion and science.
Art encloses a diverse range of human activities, creations and modes of expression, including all types of art, music, literature, film, sculpture and paintings. Art opens us from deep inside and lets our creativity take place beyond our mind and beneath our heart. Art reflects who we are, it is a like a mirror of ourselves reflecting our emotions to our art, and with every step and reaction towards our art there is a reason! Jackson Pollock said
‘every good painter paints what he is’
So we can now point that we do know the meaning of art, but whilst thinking about it all I was very much confused when I asked this question to myself; Is a creative thing done by people classified as ART? Who has the ‘authority’ to decide if an object is a piece of ART? Who decides? Is it the creator? Or the art historian? or else the public? Who? Is everything considered as art today? In today’s world, it seem that the person who creates something is automatically considered an artist!
Anyone can go to an art shop, buy a canvas board, some paints and brushes and draw something. Therefore the product can beconsidered as a piece of art? And the person who did it is an artist? Or considered as a person capable of drawing? Too many questions have been asked as I have thought about this questions for years. And still cannot find a conclusion.
